Winter is a time when most of us sit back and reflect on the year. What we accomplished, where we can improve, and offers a quiet time to rest and prepare for the New Year. One way that people find solace in the winter is by decorating their homes so they're cozy and comfortable, to prepare for the winter ahead. Below are some winter decorating tips for the new year.

  •  Incorporate natural fabrics. You really can't beat the natural look, especially in the wintertime. Sheepskin rugs, woolen rugs, and others can be used to instantly make the space cozier. Don't forget plus throw blankets either!
  • Emphasize the fireplace, if you have one. If you don't, and you have the space for one, consider purchasing an entertainment center with a faux fireplace, or a standalone heater that looks like a real fireplace. If you have a fireplace, draping fairy lights or placing natural wood logs by the fireplace even if you don't intend to burn them, can create a lovely effect.
  • Create cozy lighting by using a dimmer switch for your lights, or burn some candles to make your space feel warm and safe. If you don't have any lamps or floor lamps, consider purchasing some and using a warm white or yellow lightbulb for a glowing light effect.
  • Earthy colors. Earthy colors are not only classic, but they can help warm up a space in the dead of winter. Whether you choose to paint as a way to bring the colors in, or just by adding warm and earth-toned decor and art and throw pillows or blankets, earthy colors can make a tremendous difference in your home.
  • Use wood to warm up the area. Either by replacing the floor with wood floors or something that looks like wood, or adding a tree or plant, wood has a calming and warming effect on an otherwise harsh home.
